Requirements

What you need.

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. There is no macOS or Linux build, and none is planned.
  • No administrator account. It installs for your user only.
  • Nothing else to install. FFmpeg ships inside the installer.
  • A GPU is optional. NVENC, AMF and Quick Sync are used when available; otherwise rendering falls back to the CPU.
  • Provider accounts are your own. Voiceover has a free option built in, so you can produce a full video before connecting anything paid.
Installing

About the SmartScreen warning.

This build is not code-signed yet. Windows will show “Windows protected your PC” the first time you run the installer. That is Windows reporting that it does not recognise the publisher — not a report that anything is wrong with the file.

  1. Choose More info on the warning.
  2. Choose Run anyway.
  3. If you would rather confirm the file first, verify its hash below before you run it.

Code signing is planned. Until then this warning is expected on every release, and it will keep appearing until the download builds up reputation with Microsoft.

Verify

Check the file you received is the file that was published.

Every release publishes a signed manifest containing the SHA-256 of its installer. Compare your copy against it.

  1. Hash the file you downloaded. In PowerShell, from your Downloads folder:
    Get-FileHash .\OmniFrameStudio-2.0.3-Setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256
  2. Compare it against the published hash for version 2.0.3:

  3. They should match exactly. If they do not, delete the file and download it again.

Updating later

You only download by hand once. After that the app checks for updates itself and shows an Update available button in the top bar, with the release notes before you commit. You can skip a version or be reminded tomorrow.
